Massachusetts Taxpayer Refunds Update
On November 1st, Massachusetts Department of Revenue began distributing tax refunds in accordance with Chapter 62F, a Massachusetts tax law that requires excess revenues to be returned to taxpayers. The distribution is based off the income tax liability as reported on your 2021 MA tax return and is equal to 14.0312% of the liability, which is higher than the original estimate of 13%.
If you are eligible to receive a refund and your returns have been filed, you should receive your refund by December 15th via direct deposit or check. If you have not yet filed your 2021 return, you are still eligible if you file by September 15, 2023.
The Commonwealth has provided a refund calculator that can be used to estimate your refund based on your 2021 MA income tax liability: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/chapter-62f-taxpayer-refunds
